The buttons across the top of Reports set the period for the whole page at once. This month, last month, this year, or Custom range if you want to type your own start and end day.
There is one thing worth knowing before you read anything else on the page, because it is the source of nearly every "these two numbers disagree" question.
Two different dates
Cards do not all count by the same date.
Sales, Products, Calendar and Customers count by the event date. "This month" on those cards means the parties happening this month, whenever the order for them arrived. A wedding booked in January and served in June belongs to June. Requests and quotes counts by the day the request arrived. It has to. A request you declined may never have had an event date at all, and one that is still waiting for an answer often has a date the customer is not sure about yet. Counting those by event date would quietly drop them out of the report, which is the opposite of what a page about requests is for.So a busy January of enquiries for a summer wedding season shows up as a big number under Requests and quotes in January, and as revenue in June. Both are correct. They are answering different questions.
What "custom range" is for
Two things, mostly.
A season that does not line up with a calendar month: the run from mid-May to the end of August, a festival week, the fortnight around Christmas.
And a comparison you want to be honest. If you are checking whether this spring beat last spring, set both ranges to the same number of days. "This year so far" against "last year" is not a comparison, it is a shorter period losing to a longer one.
Tip
The period you pick stays put while you move between the cards, so you can set it once and read the whole page against it.
