Your customers only ever see the published version of a calculator. Everything you change in the Builder waits in a draft until you publish it. A few tabs are the exception: they save straight to the live calculator, and they have their own Save button.
The draft saves itself
On most tabs you never need to save. The Builder saves your work into the draft a moment after you stop typing, and the bar at the bottom of the page shows Saving… and then Draft saved. The button in that bar is Save & Publish, the same as the one at the top of the page. A brand new calculator has Save Draft there instead, which creates it without publishing.
A draft is private. A customer who opens your calculator right now still sees the last version you published.
Save & Publish puts it live
Publish (or Save & Publish, once the calculator is live) is the only button that changes what customers see. Until you press it, a line under the button tells you where you stand:- You have unpublished changes. The calculator is live, and your draft has changes customers can't see yet.
- Not live yet. Nobody can see this calculator until you publish it for the first time.
Check the draft before you publish
Once a draft exists, Draft options appears next to the publish button. It shows when the draft was last saved, and it has two choices:
- Preview draft opens the calculator with your changes, in a new tab, so you can try it the way a customer would.
- Discard draft throws the changes away and brings back the published version.
Tabs that save straight to live
These tabs change the live calculator the moment you save them, so they skip the draft: Form, Mid-flow questions, Delivery, Availability, Email, Arena Events and Spaces. Product changes work the same way, because a product can sit in more than one calculator.
On these tabs nothing is written until you press their own Save. The bar reminds you: *These changes go live when you save.*
If you try to leave one of these tabs with unsaved changes, the Builder asks first:
- Keep editing takes you back.
- Leave anyway drops the changes.
- Save & leave saves them and moves on.
Publishing while a tab is unsaved
Press Save & Publish with unsaved changes on one of those tabs, and the Builder asks before it does anything. Publishing alone would leave those changes behind.
- Save and publish saves the tabs first, then publishes. If a tab fails to save, nothing is published and the tab shows Retry.
- Publish without them publishes the draft and keeps the tab changes on screen, still unsaved.
- Keep editing closes the question.
Good to know
On a phone, the Builder has a Publish changes button instead of Save & Publish. It works the same way.
